National Park Service (NPS) regulations allow school groups and other bona fide national and international academic institutions to obtain a waiver for park entrance fees, provided that the visit is for educational or scientific purposes. Educational fee waivers are not automatically granted. Applicant groups must show they qualify for the waiver. The three criteria to be met to qualify for a fee waiver include: eligibility, educational purpose and relevance of park resources or facilities.
Fee waivers must be requested in writing, on the institution's letterhead at least two weeks prior to the visit. Include a statement about your group's educational objectives.
