The year-long celebration of Rocky Mountain National Park's 100th Anniversary continues with the following programs in the latter part of July. This is just a snapshot of all the numerous events.Check the park website regularly, www.nps.gov/romo or follow us on social media @Rockynps for updates on 100th Anniversary events and programs. July 22: Centennial Artist in Residence Program Presents: Through An Artist's Eyes – Discover the many ways that nature inspires art in these weekly presentations by one of the park's Artists in Residence. This week features the illustrations and visual arts of Lori Discoe. 7:30 p.m. Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. July 23: Centennial Science Behind The Scenery –This series highlights scientific activity and learning in the park as it relates to the 100th Anniversary. This week features Karen Barton as she presents Just Listen: Engaging Young People in Soundscape Research 7:30 p.m. Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. July 24: West Side Story – Enhance your knowledge of the west side of the park from the beginning. Who was in the Kawuneeche Valley before 1915? How were lives changed after Rocky was established? Why wasn't the Kawuneeche Valley part of the U.S.? Join your guide, Dave Lively, as he leads you through the West Side Story of Rocky Mountain National Park. 7:30 p.m. Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. July 24-26: Youth Conservation Corps Reunion – From 1976-1983, hundreds of youths ages 15-18 participated in a residential work program at Camp Kawuneeche and Camp Eagle Cliff and performed invaluable work projects that changed their lives. This reunion will bring YCC members back together and provide opportunities to share experiences and stories. All interested parties must find their own lodging or camping sites. For more information, please visit www.rockyycc.com. July 25: Connecting To Rocky Mountain National Park's Wilderness Through Geology –Limited to 15 participants. This hike, led by local geologist Connor Newman, explores the geological history of the park and how the geology has led to the beautiful landscape we have celebrated for 100 years. This strenuous hike ascends 2,150' to the Andrews Tarn which lies at the base of the Andrews Glacier. Learn about the glacial history of the park and the different rocks that make up the mountains as you hike to this beautiful spot. 6:30 a.m. –1 p.m. To register, visit this event listing on the Calendar of Centennial Events. July 25: Saturday Night In The Park –Celebrating the Centennial –Join a special speaker in the auditorium of Kawuneeche Visitor Center every Saturday night to hear a new perspective on the 100th Anniversary of Rocky Mountain National Park. 7 p.m. Kawuneeche Visitor Center. · July 25: The Civilian Conservation Corps: Legend And Legacy In Rocky Mountain National Park –The CCC has a legacy that goes beyond what work projects they performed. What they accomplished in the 1930s advanced the development of the park by 20 years. Come find out more about the lasting legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Rocky. 7:30pm. Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. July 25: Centennial Concert with Brad Fitch: Come hear songs from Cowboy Brad's Centennial album, Rocky! This free concert is fun for the whole family. 7 p.m. Performance Park, Estes Park. · July 27: Rocky Mountain Conservancy Field Class: A Centennial History - $50/person. Limited to 14 participants. Beginning with a discussion of the "national park idea" and the strenuous six-year-long campaign to create Rocky Mountain National Park, this seminar will spend the day in the field visiting the sites and places associated with the themes that have shaped the park's first century. July 30: Centennial Science Behind The Scenery –This series highlights scientific activity and learning in the park as it relates to the 100th Anniversary. This week features Robert Brunswig as he presents Three Thousand Generations of Native Americans in Rocky Mountain National Park: the emerging story of the park's natural and cultural landscapes since the last Ice Age. 7:30 p.m. Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. July 30: Opening Reception For People In The Park Exhibit –This opening event will be held outdoors at the Loveland Museum and Gallery and will feature live and recorded music, lectures, food booths, vendor booths, and hopefully a show by the Rocky Mountain Raptor Museum. 5-8 p.m. Free Admission. The exhibit is on display through August 30. Loveland. Also, don't forget about some of our special on-going events that celebrate Rocky's Centennial year. Celebrate with the Colorado Mountain Club (through September 4): The Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) was instrumental in the formation of Rocky Mountain National Park 100 years ago. To celebrate, the public is invited to join the CMC in a special hikes and climbs of 100 of the 125 Named Peaks in the Park, Wildflower Hikes led by Colorado Native Plant Masters, and other special hikes. Across the Divide Geo-Tour, A Centennial Geo-Adventure (Year-round): Come experience this free family fun GPS treasure hunt! 50 Geocaches in Estes Park, Grand Lake, and the park relating to the Wilderness, Wildlife, Wonder, and Centennial history take you from town to town and across the Continental Divide (when Trail Ridge Road is open). Whether you are new to geo-caching or are a geo-caching expert, this tour is a fun and challenging adventure for the whole family. Find out more at the Estes Park and Grand Lake Visitor Centers or visit the Across the Divide GeoTour Facebook page Vacation Races' Rocky Mountain Half Marathon and 100th Anniversary Virtual Race (5K, 10K, and Half Marathon) Registration: Vacation Races is proud to sponsor the Rocky Mountain Half Marathon, a beautiful course outside Rocky Mountain National Park but with great views of the park on August 1. They are also sponsoring a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon Virtual Race to be run anytime between September 1-7. A Virtual Race can be run anywhere.
