WASHINGTON— Rock Creek Park turns 135 this month and the National Park Service is hosting a series of Punk Rocks! special events. Join us on Sept. 20, 21, 27 and 28 for two weekends of music, history and science as we celebrate the past, present and future of one of the nation’s oldest urban parks.
Punk Rocks! programs will blend DC’s legendary punk rock spirit—rooted in iconic venues like Fort Reno—with Rock Creek Park’s geologic, cultural and cosmic stories. Through hands-on programs, live music and creative workshops, visitors will explore the wild energy of nature and discover the vital role of green spaces in city life.
When / Where: Sept. 20-21 at Rock Creek Park’s Georgetown sites; Sept. 27-28 at the Rock Creek Park Nature Center and Planetarium
The first weekend’s events will feature an archeology program and a garden talk at the Old Stone House, tours of the Mount Zion and Female Union Band Society Cemeteries by the Black Georgetown Foundation, and pop-up programs in Georgetown Waterfront Park.
Located at the Rock Creek Park Nature Center and Planetarium, the second weekend’s events will include astronomy and geology programs, new planetarium films, punk rock pop-ups and musical performances. There will also be a Picnic in the Park event at Peirce Mill on the evening of Sept. 27 and a “Paws and Punk Edition” of the B.A.R.K. Ranger program at the Nature Center on Sept. 28.
The events are free and family-friendly. Whether you are a music lover, history buff or nature enthusiast, you won’t want to miss these Rock Creek Park Day weekends.
