Return of the British Invasion Richmond National Battlefield Park and Historic St. John’s Church partner in living history event explaining Benedict Arnold’s Raid 

RICHMOND, Va.— The British invasion returns!  On Saturday, January 8, the public is invited to join Richmond National Battlefield Park and Historic St. John’s Church for their highly anticipated annual event interpreting the capture of Richmond by British Brigadier General Benedict Arnold on January 5, 1781. 

 

The event begins at 10 am at Historic St. John’s Church (2401 E Broad St), with National Park Service Ranger Bert Dunkerly providing an overview of Arnold’s raid and its legacy. Additional speakers will provide insights into the life and times of those living in Richmond in the 18th century. Benedict Arnold, soldiers, and civilian reenactors be on the church grounds to describe their role in the American Revolution. The event culminates with a walking tour at 2:30 pm beginning on the grounds of Chimborazo Medical Museum (3215 E Broad St). 

 

This event is free of charge, but anyone wishing to attend the walking tour should sign up at Eventbrite (https://bit.ly/33AZrqZ). Visitors participating in the 1.5 mile walking tour are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and dress appropriately for outdoor conditions. The outdoor living history activities are available without reservation. During the event the St. John’s Church Visitor Center and Gift Shop will be open.
