Enjoy the riverfront view and FREE activities as history comes to life at the 12th Annual Richmond Civil War Day, Saturday April 25 at the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar. The day will be filled activities for the whole family. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Center. A flat rate of $5 will be charged to park on site. Pack a picnic and walk the grounds or purchase lunch from Christie’s Lunchbox from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Events will take place rain or shine, excluding artillery and musket firing demonstrations.

A custom-designed American Civil War Center Scout badge will be available for both boys and girls, and the National Park Service will also be offering their Junior Ranger program. Music, blacksmithing demonstrations, and children’s crafts are available throughout the day. Learn more about African American Spirituals, Civil War Medicine, or the war’s influence on the changing roles of women.

Experience a wet plate photography demonstration to see how historic images were taken before the use of digital cameras. If enjoying a relaxing day is more to your taste, take a self-guided walking tour of nearby Belle Isle or Brown’s Island and kick back along the riverside.

These activities are sure to engage your mind and your spirit by providing an overview of what life was like during the Civil War.
