BEAUFORT, S.C.- On Saturday September 24, 2022, from 10 am to 1 pm, Reconstruction Era National Historical Park will be working alongside community partners at Tabernacle Baptist Church (907 Craven Street, Beaufort, SC 29902) and Brick Baptist Church (85 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, St. Helena, SC 29920) for National Public Lands Day - the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort.

Volunteers who wish to participate have the option to meet at either location and will work to clean headstones at the site of their choosing. Those in attendance will also have an opportunity to learn from church leaders and park staff about the history of the historic churches. Supplies and training needed for cleaning headstones will be provided by the park, and participants should wear comfortable attire for working outdoors. Those interested in participating must pre-register by contacting the park’s volunteer coordinator, Rich Condon (e-mail us or 843-941-3676).

National Public Lands Day has been led by the National Environmental Education Foundation since 1994. This nationwide volunteer effort is held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, and gives attendees an opportunity to care for public spaces in their communities, including National Parks and local greenspaces.
