Partial Closure of Scenic Drive for Culvert Work

To access Scenic Drive parking areas, detour around the closure on Joplin Road and Park Headquarters Road

Part of Scenic Drive within Prince William Forest Park, from the Park Entrance Road intersection to approximately Mile Marker 1, will be closed to all public motor vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian use from approximately 7:00 a.m. through approximately 4:00 p.m. daily Tuesday, April 15, 2025 through Thursday, April 17, 2025. All times are local and subject to change based on operational needs. Park Entrance Road will remain open with no restrictions to Pine Grove Picnic Area and the Visitor Center. The impacted area will be delineated by physical barriers and signs. Violation of the limitation is prohibited.

It is the assessment of the National Park Service that the limitation is necessary to protect contract construction staff and the public during the work to allow for the replacement of stormwater infrastructure. Due to the narrowness of the roadway in this area and presence of construction equipment in the roadway and workers, less restrictive measures will not suffice to provide for construction staff and public safety. Traffic control signs will be in place to assist motorists with accessing Scenic Drive via a detour route. The detour route will direct the public to Park Headquarters Rd for alternate access to Scenic Drive. The park intends to lift the limitation as soon as possible following the completion of construction activities.

Violating a closure, designation, use or activity restriction, schedule of visiting hours, or public use limit, including this closure, is prohibited. The National Park Service regrets any inconvenience and appreciates the public's cooperation and understanding.
