Park Closures

In the event of a park closure, information will be shared on the park's main phone line (703-221-7181), website, and Facebook page.

Important Safety Notice

As the National Park Service continues to monitor and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic, limitations and restrictions will be put in place at Prince William Forest Park to slow the spread of the virus. To ensure the safety of park staff and visitors, limitations and closures have been put in place. Indoor and outdoor group gatherings are limtied and face masks are required to be worn inside all federal facilities and buildings, as well as on trails when social distancing cannot be maintained. Park staff will make updates to park operations as needed in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines.

Effective February 5, 2021, individuals over the age of two years must wear masks, except when actively eating or drinking, in the following locations:

  1. All common areas and shared workspaces in buildings owned, rented or leased by the National Park Service, including, but not limited to, park visitor centers, administrative offices, lodges, gift shops and restaurants.
  2. Outdoor areas where physical distancing (staying at least six feet apart) cannot reasonably be maintained.

Exceptions: CDC guidance recognizes that masks should not be worn by anyone whom has trouble breathing. Wearing masks may be difficult for some people with sensory, cognitive, or behavioral issues. If a visitor is unable to wear a mask properly or cannot tolerate a mask, they should not wear one and may be asked to leave any location where masks are required to be worn. Visitors may be asked to lower their masks briefly for identification purposes in compliance with safety and security requirements.

Prince William Forest Park is a four-seasons park. Visitors can expect seasonal weather including snow and ice in the winter, heavy rain in the spring and summer, and high temperatures in the summer. Visitors are encouraged to check local weather advisories prior to and during their visit. In cases of inclement weather, the park may close for the safety of visitors and staff. Visitors are advised to check the park's website prior to their visit in the event of a closure.

As seaons change, so do the patterns of wildlife. At times, wildlife may be seen throughout the park. Never approach, feed, or harass wildlife. Do not block traffic or park in unauthorized areas to view wildlife. Wild animals will react if they feel threatened and could potentially cause physical harm to people and pets. If you observe unsafe or unusual behavior of wildlife or anyone harassing wildife report it to a park staff member immediately.
