What's new?

Expect to see construction through fall 2021. Check this webpage for updates including what areas will be open or closed and when.

Watch for flaggers directing traffic, and expect single lane traffic through the summer. Following workers' directions will help us finish construction more quickly and will allow us to completely reopen park roads sooner.

Map of construction areas in 2021. Construction will happen at Turkey Run Road in late June, at Telegraph Road in July. At Oak Ridge Road in July and August, and on the Park Entrance Road and Scenic Drive from June to October.

Expect to see work throughout Prince William Forest Park during the summer of 2021. The work is scheduled to happen at:
  • (Green) Turkey Run Road in late-June until early-July.
  • (Blue) Telegraph Road in mid-July.
  • (Pink) Oak Ridge Road in late-July and early-August.
  • (Orange) Scenic Drive and the Park Entrance Road from June through October.
Construction will start in some areas of Prince William Forest Park in spring 2021, but it will not affect most park visitors until summer.

After Memorial Day, work will begin in phases on park campground roads, the entrance road, Scenic Drive, and parking areas. We anticipate finishing the work in mid-October.
Biking
Bicyclists should expect temporary road and lane closures on park roads. This means you may have to wait or turnaround if the area you want to travel is under construction. We will post construction information on this website, so please check before you visit.

Camping & Picnicking
The National Park Service will repave, patch, or seal the roads leading to and through frontcountry camping and picnic areas including
  • Turkey Run Group Campground
  • Oak Ridge Campground
  • Telegraph Picnic Area
We will temporarily close the roads to get to these sites on some weekdays and weekends. We may also direct traffic with flaggers. Check this webpage to learn when the work is scheduled to start and stop.

Driving
Some parts of the park will temporarily close for repaving, patching or road sealing work. These areas will be closed to drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. We will share more information about when the closures will happen on this webpage.
The National Park Service and Federal Highway Administration are improving park roads by:
  • Sealing
    • Applying a thin coat of asphalt or sealant to roads and parking areas to preserve the pavement.
  • Striping
    • Painting new markings on park roads.
