Specific to Prince William Forest Park

  • How many hours do I need to volunteer to earn a free Interagency Annual VIP pass?
    • After completing 250 hours of volunteer service, you will receive an Interagency Annual Pass, good for one year from the date issued.
  • How can I view open volunteer positions and apply to them?
    • Visit volunteer.gov to view a list of open volunteer positions, as well as a description and requirements for each position. You can apply from this website for any volunteer positions you are interested in.
  • Are volunteers required to wear a uniform?
    • Yes. Volunteers are provided with polo shirts, t-shirts and a hat with the national volunteer patch. You are required to wear your volunteer uniform when you are on duty.
  • Is there phone service or Wi-Fi in the park?
    • Phone service and Wi-Fi is spotty throughout the park.
      • Cabin camp host housing and the dining halls have landline phones.
      • Oak Ridge Campground has low cell service.
      • Visitor Center has good cell service.
  • Are government vehicles provided to cabin camp hosts?
    • Yes, utility vehicles are provided for Cabin Camp hosts for daily host duties only. Vehicles may not be used outside of the park property for unofficial use. Hosts may not transport non national park service employees or volunteers using a government vehicle.
  • Can I bring my pets with me as a host in Prince William Forest Park?
    • Yes, Prince William Forest Park is a pet friendly park. However, you must keep your pets contained or leashed at all times. Per CFR36, pets may be kept by residents of park areas consistent with the provisions of this section and in accordance with conditions which may be established by the superintendent. Violation of these conditions is prohibited. For more information, you can refer to CFR Title 36, Chapter 1, Part 2 subsection 2.15.
  • Since Virginia allows recreational marijuana, is it allowed in the park?
    • No, marijuana in any form is not allowed on Federal land.
  • Can I bring my RV or camper trailer while performing camp host duties?
    • Oak Ridge Campground, Visitor Center and Maintenance have access to RV sites which include water, electric and sewer. When hosting at the Oak Ridge Campground, you are required to have your own RV, camper trailer or tent.
    • Cabin Camps have both host housing and/or RV sites available.
  • Are there laundry facilities available?
    • There are washers and dryers located at Cabin Camp 3 and Cabin Camp 5. There are also several local laundry mats.
