Eagle Scout Projects

These projects are on a first come first served basis.

The park must receive your proposal 2 months after you have contacted the volunteer coordinator with your project selection. If your proposal is not received at that time, it will go back on the website as an available Eagle Scout project.

If you are interested in any of these projects, we ask that you write a project proposal document outlining the scope of the project and benefit to the park. The proposal will be presented to the park Superintendent, Tanya Gossett, Volunteer Coordinator, Kerri Syrus and the potential projects supervisor. The Superintendent will review and approve all project proposals. I will contact you and let you know if your proposal has been approved.

Thank you for considering Prince William Forest Park for you Eagle Scout Project.

Fire Danger Sign – Prince William Forest Park has approximately 15,000 acres of forest that we are dedicated to protecting. A fire danger sign is a sign that you may have seen on the side of the road in forested areas. It helps inform people about the fire danger for that area on that day. The addition of a fire danger sign will allow us to inform park visitors and campers on the current potential initiation and spread of a wildfire.

Florence Cemetery
Cemetery Clean Up – There are over 45 family cemeteries within the park. The location of these sites are not shared with the park visitors. This project would help us conserve a special part of the parks history. This could involve a hike quite a distance off trail and would include removing leaves, small brush, branches and basic clean up. We also ask that you report any damage or potential damage to the site. You may also choose to do a little research on the individuals and share your findings with us.

Repair Historical Ballfield Backstops – There are three historical ballfields at Prince William Forest Park. The backstops are in need of some repair. This project would require you to work closely with park staff that have knowledge on how to preserve the backstops to maintain the historical integrity.

Evaluate Orienteering Course – Prince William Park has 30 Orienteering Courses and is one of our most popular activities. The courses were developed in 1972 through a partnership with the Swedish Military Orienteering Team, United States Marine Corps and Quantico Orienteering Club. This project would require you to walk off trail. You will be asked to document condition of the posts and GPS the point. You will report any post that cannot be located, are not in the correct location or are damaged and make the appropriate repairs to the course.
