Volunteer: Adopt-a-Trail (Trail Challenge)

Overview
Sponsored by the Point Reyes National Seashore Association, the Adopt-a-Trail (Trail Challenge) volunteer assists park staff in maintaining trails in the Bear Valley area to provide safe hiking experiences for visitors and to provide for minimal recreational impact on the natural landscape.

Duties

  • Grade and shape trail tread
  • Construct trail structures, such as stairs

Volunteers should be able to perform moderate laboring tasks, be able to read and follow directions, and possess some experience and ability in using hand tools.

Volunteers must also be willing to work in areas with potential exposure to poison oak, stinging nettles and ticks. Volunteers are required to provide closed-toe shoes.

Schedule and Time Commitment
Volunteers work 5 or 6 hours per day starting at 9:30am. Volunteers are not required to work more than one day at a time. However, volunteers are welcome to work as many of the scheduled work days as desired.

  • Saturday, September 7, 2013: 9:30 am to 3:30 pm

Training
Training is provided on-the-job.

Benefits to the Volunteer
Volunteers have the opportunity to gain experience in trail maintenance techniques while enjoying the satisfaction of helping to maintain the trail system in Point Reyes National Seashore.

Group Type
Individuals and groups are encouraged to participate.

Minimum Age
All ages are welcome. Volunteers under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under 18 must have a signed parental consent form. Please contact us (see below) for more information.

Accommodations
Housing and camping/RV sites are unavailable.
