Celebrate in Riverton, UtahBoy Scout Troop 1813 from Riverton, Utah has been digging post holes for new site markers on the Pony Express National Historic Trail in Utah. On June 2, 2018, to commemorate National Trails Day, the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management will join Boy Scout leaders to install the markers. Celebrate in Sacramento, CaliforniaSince 1978, the National Pony Express Association has hosted its Re-Ride, a whirlwind nonstop ten-day event in which 700 skilled riders take the nearly 2,000-mile route between Sacramento, California and St. Joseph, Missouri, reliving the history of relay mail service on this national historic trail. On June 20, 2018 in Old Town Sacramento, California the National Pony Express Association and the National Park Service will host the opening day of Re-Ride in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act. The first Pony Express rider will leave in a cloud of dust at 3 pm PDT carrying mail in a mochila (saddlebag). Events in Old Sacramento include Junior Ranger activities, presentations by historians and dignitaries, living history, and a chance for children to interact with horses and ponies. Celebrate in Torrington, WyomingThe National Pony Express Association will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act at its annual convention and meeting in Torrington, Wyoming September 7-8, 2018. Events include a tour of Fort Laramie, a bus tour of local wagon ruts, a tour of the local wineries, and reports from the boards and chapters. |
