Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park (CEBE) is offering a History at Sunrise ranger-led talk on Saturday, October 19 for the 160th commemoration of the Battle of Cedar Creek. This 1-hour program will begin at 7:30 am. Meet at the Moring Attack Trails parking area on Claven Lane, Middletown, Va. Turn onto Long Meadow Road, just south of the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation Museum & Visitor Center along US 11. Right turn onto Claven Lane, the parking area is at the end of the drive.

Enjoy the sunrise over the Cedar Creek Battlefield and Belle Grove Plantation. A park ranger talk will summarize the before and after impacts of the battle on the Shenandoah Valley. Take a short walk to the 8th Vermont Monument to interview a monument. This was the camp area for a division of the US 8th Corps before the Battle of Cedar Creek and on October 19, 1864, this ridge was the site of intense fighting during the morning Confederate surprise attack.

After the program a National Park Service informational table will be set up on the Morning Attack Trails with interactive activities about how Federal soldiers voted absentee during the 1864 elections.

This tour is free and open to the public. Bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable footwear.
