A quiet cottage nestled between ocean and bay beaches, a rare forest, and a historic community, the Cottage at Sailors Haven offers guests a unique and varied experience in a secluded section of Fire Island.

Guests can enjoy hikes in the Sunken Forest and walks through the swale habitat, days at the beach or oceanside strolls in the evening, food and music with National Park Service concessionaire partners LoveFINS, or visits to the nearby historic town of Cherry Grove. The Cottage at Sailors Haven is close to some of the best experiences Fire Island has to offer.

When is the cottage available? 

Reservations can be made beginning February 1st. Dates can be booked from Mid-May through Columbus Day Weekend in October.

How much does it cost? 

Peak Season (Mid-June through Labor Day Weekend): $2,580 for a minimum 6-night stay ($430 per night)

Off-Peak (Mid-May through Mid-June & the weekend after Labor Day through Columbus Day Weekend): $1500 for a minimum 6-night stay ($250 per night) 


What is the capacity of the house? 

The house sleeps up to 4 guests. Beds include a queen-sized bed and a full-sized sofabed. 

How do I get to the house? 

The house is accessible by ferry or private boat only via the following options:
 
  • A private vessel docked at the Sailors Haven Marina. Docking and utility fees apply.
  • Take the ferry to Sailors Haven – The terminal is located at 41 River Road, Sayville, NY. Paid parking is available nearby. The ferry docks at Sailors Haven Marina, which is about 1/3 mile walk via paved path to the cottage.
  • Take the ferry to Cherry Grove – The terminal is also located at 41 River Road, Sayville, NY. Paid parking is available nearby. The ferry docks at the community of Cherry Grove and reaching the cottage requires a walk of about ¾ mile west to the cottage via wooden boardwalks and paved paths.
Guests taking the Long Island Railroad should travel to the Sayville Station and take a shuttle or taxi to the Sayville Ferry.

The Cottage at Sailors Haven is a one bedroom, one bathroom cottage with a small kitchen, living area and an outdoor deck. The cottage is fully furnished, with a queen bed and full-sized sofabed, a fully equipped kitchen, outdoor shower and propane grill. The cottage is not climate controlled (no heat or air conditioning). Pillows are included, but bed sheets and towels are not. The cottage is a short walk from the beach, the Sunken Forest, concessions at Sailors Haven, and the historic community of Cherry Grove.

What other amenities are available nearby? 

LoveFINS concessions at Sailors Haven provide both food and beverage for purchase at the marina. LoveFINS operates a general store, which provides sundry goods to Seashore visitors, a snack bar, and café.The nearby community of Cherry Grove offers restaurants, groceries, shops, and nightlife in season. 

What activities are available nearby? 

National Park Service rangers stationed at Sailors Haven may offer a variety of guided programs (depending upon staff availability) including tours of the Sunken Forest, seining, or junior ranger programs. See the events calendar for up-to-date information on all Seashore programs or check the Sailors Haven Visitor Center upon arrival.

A free lifeguarded beach is available nearby at Sailors Haven. Lifeguards operate seasonally and are usually onsite throughout the day from the morning to the mid-afternoon. 

The Sunken Forest – a globally rare maritime holly forest – is a short walk from the cottage and offers opportunities for short hikes and wildlife watching. Tours of the forest are typically given by National Park Service rangers on weekends in season.

LoveFINS concessionaires at the Sailors Haven Marina offer food, drink, and entertainment. Live music and other programs often occur on weekends. 

Nearby Cherry Grove offers additional options for food, drink, and entertainment.
