This immense site once contained over two miles of embankment wall enclosing over 120 acres in the shape of two grand circles and a 27 acre square with astronomical alignments. The embankment wall was as high as ten feet tall in places. In the center of it all was an enormous earthen mound that was over 30 feet high, 240 feet long and 160 feet wide. It contained several ceremonial burials which comprised of human remains and rare & precsious exotic materials.

Visitors to the site are still able to view the restored central mound. A portion of the original large circle was reconstructed and is visible, as well. Interpretive trails and waysides help guide visitors on a self-guided and self-paced tour. The covered picnic shelter at the entrance to the site is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We do not take reservations for the shelter.  Visit the Seip Earthworks page for additional information about this site, including directions and maps.
