Quick Facts
Location:
Located at the intersection of Old Santa Fe Road and 93rd Street in Kansas City, Missouri
Significance:
Early burial site for trail travelers
Designation:
Certified Site

The Santa Fe Trail, and later Oregon and California trails, passed next to the present-day Palestine Cemetery. The date of the first burial at Palestine Cemetery is unknown, but historical evidence suggests the parcel of land was used as a burial site for early trail travelers (possibly in the 1820’s). Privately owned until 1882 when the owner donated the land to the Trustees of Palestine Church, evidence suggests the cemetery began as an informal burial ground for passing travelers and became a more formal community cemetery over time.
