National Park Service will waive Entrance Fees During National Trails Day
(Pipestone, MN) Pipestone National Monument Superintendent Glen Livermont announced that during National Trails Day, June 5 and 6, 2010, Pipestone National Monument will waive entrances fees. These days are meant to provide an opportunity for families to come to the Monument and experience the great outdoors. While at the Monument each child can participate in Junior Ranger activities and receive a certificate and a Junior Ranger badge.
National Trails Day is a program sponsored by the American Hiking Society, in partnership with the National Park Service. It is an opportunity to engage families and communities in America’s Great Outdoors, reconnecting them with nature and creating close to home opportunities for people to get outside, be active, and have fun. The Monument offers a ¾ mile walking trail, new orientation film, museum, pipestone demonstrators, picnic area and a gift shop. As a visitor you will be able to explore American Indian culture and the natural resources of the tallgrass prairie. Established by Congress in 1937 to protect the historic pipestone quarries, the site is considered sacred by many American Indians. Spanning centuries of use, American Indians continue to quarry pipestone at the Monument.
