PETERSBURG, Va.— Petersburg National Battlefield has scheduled road work to begin in August 2025. This work will address serious sinkholes, preserve pavement and restripe roads and parking lots.
The Eastern Front Tour Road will be closed to vehicles south of Route 36 from August 20 to September 9, 2025. The visitor centers will remain open during this time.
The park expects road work to continue through November 20, 2025. It will involve additional short-term closures throughout the park at various times, including a two-day closure at the Eastern Front Visitor Center. For the latest updates on road conditions, view park alerts section of the park website at www.nps.gov/pete.
This project will occur at the Eastern Front, Western Front and Five Forks areas. Flaggers may be present to direct traffic during the work. All work is outdoors and weather-dependent, which may change periods of closure. National Park Service staff appreciate your understanding as we complete this necessary maintenance project.
If you have any questions, please contact Petersburg National Battlefield at PETE_Info@nps.gov or call 804-732-3531.
