PETERSBURG, Va — Join the staff and living history volunteers at Petersburg National Battlefield for free and immersive programs this fall!
On September 6-7, living historians portraying the 124th New York and the U.S. Army Signal Corps will be encamped at the Eastern Front Visitor Center. Throughout the weekend, they will conduct demonstrations and programs depicting life for the common soldiers during the siege and how the use of signal flags revolutionized battlefield communication. These programs will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday. The Eastern Front unit of the park can be accessed at the Eastern Front Visitor Center, 5001 Siege Road, Petersburg, Virginia.
On October 4-5, General Ulysses S. Grant and his staff will once again set up their headquarters at the park’s City Point unit, just like they did back in 1864! Visitors will be able to interact with these living historians and learn more about what it took to run an army in the field. The event will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Sunday. The Grant’s Headquarters unit is located at 1001 Pecan Ave, Hopewell, Virginia.
Fully detailed schedules of the programs will be released at a later date. Updates will be posted on our webpage and social media. Both events are weather permitting. All Petersburg National Battlefield events and program are free.
