PETERSBURG, Va — On Saturday, July 26, Petersburg National Battlefield will host a series of free programs and tours to commemorate the Battle of the Crater, a major engagement of the Petersburg campaign, fought on July 30, 1864.

The event will feature living history demonstrations and ranger-led programs at the site of the battle, located at Tour Stop 8 on the park’s Eastern Front Tour Road. These programs will run from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm and again from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Additionally, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, there will be civilian living history displays at the Eastern Front Visitor Center. The Eastern Front can be accessed at the Eastern Front Visitor Center, 5001 Siege Road, Petersburg, Virginia.

A fully detailed schedule of the programs and any potential updates will be posted on our social media sites and webpage. All the commemorative events are weather permitting.
