Application # 36777
Land Patent File # 19908
Land Patent June 3, 1907, for 76.84 acres

Daner Gibson was born in Franklin County on April 6, 1874, near Knoxville, Mississippi in Freewoods, Mississippi. His parents were Payne Gibson and Amanda Oats.

Gibson paid fees of $6.77 on May 1, 1901, and by July 1901 he completed building his house. He and his new wife, Indiana “Indy,” moved onto the property on August 3, 1901. The land was comprised of timber and for agricultural purposes. Afterward, Daner improved upon his property building his dwelling place, (produced with lumber) kitchen, corn crib, and cotton house (all made with logs). He farmed up to 15 acres over 5 seasons. The land and dwellings total value at that time was $200.

He listed his witness as Charley Edwards, William Miller, Wilbur Ewell, and Berg Fleming, but only he, Charley Edwards, and William Miller were the final witnesses. They listed their nearest post office as Knoxville, Missippi.

Daner was advised on September 1, 1904, that if he chose to prove his claim through another agent, according to the law of January 1904, it would delay his patent. Daner chose to keep the chancery clerk in Meadville and advised them on September 4, 1904. He next placed his Notice of Publication ad for his patent in Meadville, Mississippi on September 29, 1906. His Proof of Publication was posted weekly in Meadville, Mississippi from October 4, 1906, to November 1, 1906. His Certificate As To Final Posting was posted in the Searchlight Newspaper on November 12, 1906.

Daner's application was approved April 19, 1907, for the South half of the Northwest quarter of Section 49, Township 5N, Range 1E. His first fee for the property was on May 31, 1901, in the amount of $7. The final fee of $1.77 was paid on November 12, 1906, and Daner received his patent the following year, when he, his wife, and four children were living on the property.

By the time Daner received his patent, he, his wife, and four children - Luther, Cornelius (Bully), Fannie, and Payne were living on the land. By 1931, Daner and Indiana had 9 more children, Willie, Done, Thad, Albert (Bob), Sarah, Etta, Dick, L.C., and Thelma Ruth.
