The park’s Resaca de la Palma Battlefield unit has a new addition. The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), in partnership with the park, has agreed to transfer the Battle of Resaca de la Palma monument to the Resaca de la Palma Battlefield site.

The monument’s new location will increase accessibility in contrast to its previous location on Paredes Line Road. In addition, not being near the roadway allows for better preservation of the monument and eliminates the danger of being struck by a vehicle.

Originally placed by the Army in 1916, the cannon and marker represent over a century of efforts to mark and memorialize the important events surrounding the U.S. – Mexican War in Brownsville and Cameron County.

Stay tuned for an announcement regarding a formal dedication of the monument.
