Van Buren, MO – Beginning on March 1, 2013, Federal law required Ozark National Scenic Riverways to reduce its annual budget. The park had to reduce and absorb these cuts this fiscal year ending September 30th. As difficult as it was, the closing of Rymers primitive campground was one of the budget reduction decisions made. However, due to the support of the local communities, Rymers campground will be open in time for the long Fourth of July weekend.

The Shannon County Commissioners and area volunteers, in partnership with Ozark National Scenic Riverways, have stepped up to service and maintain the Rymers primitive campground for the benefit of the visiting public. The volunteers will be responsible for lawn care, campsite maintenance, and restroom cleaning.  Do your part in keeping the campground open for use. Please assist the volunteers by tidying the restroom, cleaning up your camp, and packing out your trash. The collaborative effort between the local volunteers and the park will continue as long as there are park funding shortfalls and the public supports the volunteers in the campground maintenance.

For more information, phone (573) 323-4236 during business hours 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or visit the park's website at www.nps.gov/ozar.  Ozark National Scenic Riverways preserves the free-flowing Current and Jacks Fork Rivers, the surrounding natural resources, and the unique cultural heritage of the Ozark people.
