Van Buren, MO – The Ozark National Scenic Riverways area was hit by storms bringing as much as four inches of rain over the weekend. Flooding of the Jacks Fork and Current Rivers has caused several areas, as well as the rivers themselves, to be closed.

Closed campgrounds include all primitive campsites along the Jacks Fork, the Alley Spring Campground, Bay Creek Campground, Shawnee Creek Campground, Powder Mill Campground and Big Spring Campground. These campgrounds are expected to remain closed through Tuesday June 4. Pulltite and Round Spring Campgrounds are expected to remain open.

Campers were evacuated from these areas Saturday morning, and rangers assisted several people in evacuating riverside campsites as well as assisted the Missouri Highway Patrol Water Patrol officers in a rescue outside the park.

Access to the Alley Mill is still open but the road to Big Spring was blocked by rising waters on Saturday.

Water levels at the Route 17 Bridge on the Jacks Fork reached nearly twenty feet, which is seventeen feet above flood level.
