Alley Mill Porch Reopens After Repairs

EMINENCE  MO: The Alley Mill back porch over the turbine housing has been reopened after cedar posts were placed underneath to strengthen the porch and insure visitor safety. "This effort is one step toward rehabilitating and restoring the mill, dam, and spillway," said Superintendent Bill Black. 

 Alley Mill was built in 1894 replacing a previous mill that had burned down. It has withstood floods, blizzards, heat, humidity, thunderstorms and every other type of weather. About 31,000 people visit Alley Mill annually. "It's showing its wear," states Black.

 Substantial mill, dam, and spillway preservation will be underway in 2014. Some of projects will include a new mill roof and woodwork and restoring the dam and spillway. "For visitor safety, we may have to close Alley Mill to the visiting public while work is being conducted. We ask for patience from the public. We want Alley Mill to remain a part of the community for at least another hundred and twenty years", said Superintendent Black.
