Alyssa Givens has been selected as the health and wellness coordinator for the National Park Service (NPS) Branch of Wildland Fire. She will coordinate initiatives aimed at promoting the health and well-being among wildland fire personnel.

Alyssa serves as a Commander with the US Public Health Service (USPHS). USPHS has a partnership with NPS to assign Commissioned Corps officers to protect and promote the health of employees and visitors. “Alyssa will be an asset to the Branch of Wildland Fire to bolster the growing health and wellness program and meet the needs of our employees,” added Jason Fallon, Wildland Fire Branch Chief.

Throughout Alyssa’s USPHS career, she has held five positions, serving three agencies, and spanning five geographic moves. Most recently she was detailed to the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) under the Department of Justice as the aeromedical branch chief. She provided medical oversight of prisoner transportation and focused on employee health in medical and aviation environments. Additionally, she served as a utilization review coordinator responsible for care management of pre-sentenced prisoners within USMS custody.

Alyssa began her career in the USPHS upon earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2012 from Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) in Philadelphia, PA. She later obtained her Master of Science in Nursing Community Systems Administration in 2015 from TJU with a concentration in global health, process improvement and project management. Her capstone project focused on finding innovative ways to decrease the high rates of Sexually Transmitted Infections in the Alaska Native (AN) and American Indian (AI) population.

After graduating with her nursing degree, Alyssa was assigned to the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) at the Federal Medical Center Carswell in Fort Worth, TX. She provided comprehensive nursing care to female inmates from low to maximum security. In 2014, she accepted a position as an OB/GYN RN case manager in Anchorage, Alaska, administering care to AN/AI women in 58 villages throughout the Last Frontier.

Alyssa lives in Wilmington, NC with her husband, youngest daughter (also keeping up with her two oldest who are living their own adventures) and her pup. She spends her time enjoying the beach, learning to sail, listening to live music and finding the best coffee shops!
