PORT ANGELES, Wash. – Starting the week of September 29, the Olympic Interagency Fire Management Team will burn woody debris piles within the Hurricane, Elwha, Sol Duc, Mora, Hoh, Kalaloch and Quinault administrative areas of Olympic National Park. Burn operations will be conducted only during safe weather windows and are expected to conclude by November.

Burning the debris will create defensible space around important infrastructure and decrease the risk of wildfire impacts. Burning the woody debris is the most convenient and cost-effective method for disposal.

During the burns, smoke may be visible from nearby roads and trails. Fire crews will be on site to monitor and manage the fires.
