PAGO PAGO, American Samoa—The Mount ‘Alava summit area, including the fale, are temporarily closed due to construction activity to repair the television and radio infrastructure at that location. This temporary closure is in effect until the work has been completed.

Trails that lead to the top of Mount ‘Alava remain open. However, large equipment and vehicles may be present along the access road during this time. The public is advised to watch for approaching vehicles and to use extra caution when in the proximity of heavy machinery. Hikers are also urged to follow the directions of workers. Footwear with good traction is highly recommended due to wet and muddy conditions.

The national park maintains the Mount ‘Alava Trail and summit fale to provide local residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy and experience American Samoa’s unique tropical rainforests, fruit bats, and native birds.
