Kids Fridays at Governors Island

Kids can play a part in history at Governors Island

The National Park Service is offering special programs for youth groups and families from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Friday through Aug. 22 at Governors Island National Monument.

Rangers in period attire will give short talks on the 1812-era Fort Jay and Castle Williams and share the stories of the soldiers who protected New York City and the nation. Then kids can try on costumes, play with period toys and earn a Junior Ranger badge through a series of self-guided activities.

No reservations are required. Participants should meet at Fort Jay on Governors Island.

Governors Island is a 10-minute ferry ride from Lower Manhattan. The Governors Island Ferry is located in the Battery Maritime Building, Slip # 7.
