Eldorado June 22 2014

June 26, 2014 Posted by: Climbing Ranger

The Eldorado approach route is snow free until about 4,800 ft, near the top of the second boulder field below Eldorado Basin.  No crevasses showing yet on the East Ridge route, but still be aware of large possible crevasses between East Ridge and Northeast Face.  The summit arete is reported to be in good condition, narrow as usual but crossable with the proper equipment and skill.  Crevasses are beginning to open on the Inspiration Glacier on the traverse to McAllister Glacier and Klawatti Col.

The composting toilet on the rock island at the base of the East Ridge is melted out and ready for use.  Running water can be found near the East Ridge bivi sites on warm days.
