The Forest Service put some work into the Shannon Ridge trail this summer- the forested part has been logged out, making the approach much more pleasant! The upper Shannon Ridge section is beautiful, with fall colors and ripe blueberries abounding. No running water along Shannon Ridge or at the Notch, but plenty once the traverse to the Sulphide Glacier begins. The lower bivis have several sites melted out, with plenty of running water available. The composting toilet is still open for use. The upper bivis are snow camping, with some rock to hang out on but no melted out bivi sites. The upper composter is also still open- follow highest ridge of snow to where it meets the rock ridge to find the toilet.
The Sulphide Glacier is showing some large crevasses, with many other crevasses thinly disguised. This is not a simple glacier walk at this time of the year- keep a high awareness of snow bridges and undercut lips as some of the crevasses are quite large. There is a particularly thin snow bridge on the upper glacier near the summit pyramid.
The summit pyramid is completely melted out and should be dry rock (unless an early winter storm hits).
