Ninety Six National Historic Site Improvements; Visitor Center to Close for Renovations
NINETY SIX, SC – Ninety Six National Historic Site will begin facility improvements in late October and early November with special project funding received in fiscal year 2016 and 2017. These improvements include reroofing the Visitor Center and administration buildings, installing a new entrance gate, and interior renovations to the Visitor Center. During the interior renovations, the Ninety Six National Historic Site visitor center will be closed beginning the week of November 7, 2016 and last approximately ten weeks. In preparation for the project, during the first week of November, the museum collection will be removed to storage for its protection during the renovations. The interim visitor contact station will be in the Administrative Building’s Conference Room, Wednesdays – Sundays, 9 am to 4 pm, the park’s regular operating hours. The park movie and limited sales items will be available in the temporary contact station. Visitors will still be able to access park trails throughout the renovation with the potential for short trail closure to move equipment and supplies safely. Visitor Center improvements include correcting facility deficiencies which addresses some maintenance backlog. The contract work includes repairing a crack in the lobby floor, replacing the carpet throughout the building, replacing the original electric wiring and improving museum lighting, installing energy efficient windows, and a new information desk to meet accessibility standards.
