Ninety Six National Historic Site Announces Reopening of Museum Featuring New Exhibits

News Release Date: June 23, 2026 NINETY SIX, S.C. — Ninety Six National Historic Site announced today the official reopening of its museum following an extensive redevelopment effort designed to enhance visitor experiences and expand interpretive storytelling. Beginning June 24, the refreshed museum will welcome visitors and feature new exhibits that highlight the park’s natural, cultural and historical significance.

The updated museum showcases several new exhibits, including:

• Tactile map: A newly designed interactive map table providing a scaled down representation of battlefield features including a crawl through portion of Kosciuszko’s mine.
• Voices of Ninety Six: An interactive experience allowing visitors to hear the stories from historical figures of the American Revolution.
• Everyday life: A collection of newly displayed artifacts related to life in the backcountry.

“These new exhibits allow us to share meaningful stories about this site and the people connected to it,” said Superintendent Diana Bramble. “We’re excited to reopen the museum and provide a space where visitors may explore the unique history of South Carolina’s backcountry and its role in the American Revolution.”

The new exhibits incorporate updated accessibility features, new multimedia components and expanded content developed in collaboration with park staff, subject matter experts and local partners. Visitors can expect refreshed graphics, enhanced lighting, interactive media and new hands-on learning opportunities for visitors of all ages.

• Hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday

The park will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new museum exhibits during the park’s 50^th anniversary celebration on Aug. 22. The park will share event updates including program schedules and ranger-led activities on the park website and official social media channels.

Ninety Six National Historic Site was established in 1976 to preserve and commemorate for educational benefit and enjoyment the settlement and development of the English Colonies in the backcountry of America and the role of Ninety Six in the Southern Campaign of the American Revolutionary War. It preserves unique and original resources, such as the Star Fort earthworks and Kosciuzko’s Mine, remnants of the 28-day siege of the Star Fort, the longest land siege of the entire Revolutionary War. The unique national park unit consists of 1,022 acres which include over 10 miles of hiking trails, a 27-acre fishing lake and official state fishery, and numerous natural resources and outdoor opportunities.
