Nez Perce National Historical Park Welcomes New Superintendent Jason Lyon

SPALDING, Idaho  — Nez Perce National Historical Park is pleased to announce the selection of Jason Lyon as the park's new superintendent. 

Lyon brings more than 30 years of experience in cultural resource management, Tribal relations, and National Park Service leadership. Throughout his career, he has focused on building strong partnerships, preserving cultural resources, and supporting the stewardship of places that hold deep significance for Tribal Nations and the American public. 

Lyon began his career with the Nez Perce Tribe's Cultural Resource Program in 1993, where he worked alongside Tribal elders and leaders and developed a lasting appreciation for cultural preservation, treaty rights, and Tribal sovereignty. He joined the National Park Service in 2000 as a Cultural Resource Specialist at Nez Perce National Historical Park. 

"I am honored to continue to lead Nez Perce National Historical Park in this role," said Superintendent Lyon. "This park preserves stories that continue to shape our nation and remain deeply meaningful to the Nez Perce people today. I look forward to working alongside park staff, Tribal Nations, gateway communities, partners, and volunteers to protect these important places, strengthen relationships, and ensure future generations can learn from and experience the rich history and culture preserved here." 

Throughout his career, Lyon has developed extensive expertise in cultural and natural resource management, Tribal engagement, partnership development, and collaborative leadership. His long-standing relationship with Nez Perce National Historical Park and the Nez Perce Tribe provides a strong foundation for leading the park into the future.  

Nez Perce National Historical Park preserves and interprets the history, cultures, and traditions of the Nez Perce people across 38 sites in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The park's unique partnership with the Nez Perce Tribe helps ensure these stories and connections continue to be shared with visitors from around the world.
