In preparation for Hurricane Isaac, Natchez National Historical Park Superintendent Kathleen Jenkins announces that Melrose and the William Johnson House will be closed beginning at noon on Monday, August 27th through at least Thursday, August 30th depending on the severity of the storm. The Eastern National bookstore at the Natchez Visitor Center will remain open while the Visitor Center is open. In Natchez we are expecting a 36-48 hour wind and rain event from Tuesday into Thursday, with sustained tropical storm force winds of 50-70 mph and 4-8" of rain - plus the possibility of tornadoes in the storm bands. The park will be securing exterior shutters and securing the two historic sites immediately per the Emergency Operations Plan.
