Washington – The National Park Service has begun draining the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in order to repair a broken water line, which has affected the water quality of the pool this spring. While it is empty, the pool will also be cleaned. The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool should be refilled and operational again by the week of June 16.
The problem with the water line has compromised the circulation system in the pool, leading to issues with the water quality, including the growth of algae and a noticeable green tint to the water.
It will take approximately 5-6 days for the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting pool to fully drain, at which time crews will begin repairs and cleaning the pool bottom utilizing skid steers, pumper and water trucks and a sprayer. Repairs and cleaning are expected to last a week, at which time the refilling process will begin.
