WASHINGTON— The National Park Service (NPS) will begin negotiations with East Potomac Racquet Sports Partners (EPR) to operate the East Potomac Tennis Center in Washington, D.C., under a long-term lease.
“East Potomac Tennis Center provides unique recreational opportunities along the Washington Channel,” NPS National Capital Region Director Kym A. Hall said. “The National Park Service looks forward to working with East Potomac Racquet Sports Partners to revitalize the tennis center and reach new players.”
The NPS and EPR, led by founder and president Michael Retta, will begin negotiating lease terms immediately with the goal of having a lease in place no later than January 1, 2024.
For the tennis center EPR proposes to:
-
Provide a variety of special programing to attract current and potential tennis players of all levels.
-
Promote and protect an environment of inclusivity and diversity.
-
Revitalize aging infrastructure.
-
Promote youth education and support youth tennis programs.
-
Enhance the environmental sustainability of the tennis center.
The NPS pursued a long-term, competitive lease for the tennis center to ensure the best possible recreational experience for players and the community while also allowing for capital improvements. In April 2023, the NPS issued a Request for Proposals for the lease of the East Potomac Tennis Center. Proposals were reviewed and rated by a panel, which made a recommendation to select EPR’s proposal.
The tennis center, located in East Potomac Park (National Park Service), is a popular, conveniently located destination with views of the Washington Monument, Washington Channel and East Potomac Golf Links. Indoor climate-controlled and outdoor courts allow for year-round play.
