Vernon Cody Selected as Superintendent of Hovenweep and Natural Bridges National Monuments

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 18, 2020

DENVER — National Park Service Regional Director Mike Reynolds announced the selection of Vernon Cody as superintendent of Hovenweep and Natural Bridges Monuments in Utah. Cody’s position will report to the superintendent of the Southeast Utah Group Area National Parks that includes Hovenweep and Natural Bridges National Monuments, and Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Cody has more than 27 years of National Park Service experience and currently serves as the Chief of Facility Maintenance at the Flagstaff Area Monuments in Arizona, which includes Wupatki, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Walnut Canyon National Monuments. Cody will assume his new role on June 21.

I look forward to collaborating with associated stakeholders, tribes, and neighbors as we preserve and maintain our national treasures for future generations.”

Prior to Cody’s current position he served as a maintenance mechanic supervisor at Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and as the maintenance mechanic at the Flagstaff Area National Monuments. He has also completed temporary assignments as the Chief of Facility Maintenance at Wrangell St. Elias National Park & Preserve in Alaska and Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site in southeastern Colorado. Cody began his National Park Service career as a maintenance mechanic at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Utah. He earned a Construction and Architectural Design degree from Coconino Community College.

Cody enjoys spending time with his wife Gwen, and their two dogs Chachi and Max. In addition to spending time with his family, his hobbies include trail running, mountain biking, and working on volunteer construction projects.
