On Tuesday, June 2, 2009, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced that the nation’s national parks would be offering three "fee-free weekends" throughout the summer to encourage Americans seeking affordable vacations to visit these national treasures. The first of those weekends is quickly approaching.

On Father’s Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 20 and 21, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and Hovenweep and Natural Bridges National Monuments will join national park units across the country in waiving entrance fees for all park visitors.

Visitors who arrive on June 20 or 21 will be allowed to enter and visit the park free of charge. Those whose plans include additional days in the park, will need to pay the regular entrance fee for the remainder of their stay. Park visitors are reminded that the fee free designation applies to entrance fees only and does not affect fees for camping, reservations, or special tours.

This is the first of three fee-free weekends to be held this summer. The next will be the weekend of July 18 – 19; and in August, fee-free weekend will be celebrated August 15 – 16. The Southeast Utah Group staff, friends and partners would like to encourage everyone to take advantage of these fee-free opportunities to get reacquainted with their national parks.
