Western Screech-Owl (Megascops kennicottii)

Western Screech-Owls are compact and agile owls commonly found in woodland areas across the western United States. They are nocturnal and are well adapted to nighttime conditions. The Screech Owl feeds on small mammals. Their raptorial talons allow them to perch on tree branches, and attack and grab ground prey from above. The owl’s neutral brown or gray feathers enable them to blend in with their nests located in tree cavities.
