Desert Globemallow print

(Desert Globemallow print)

Henry Mockel
Before 1981

Henry Mockel is best known for his serigraph botanical prints. In a process similar to silk-screening, serigraphy prints use stencils applied to a screen. Each color is added separately, with some pieces requiring 45 separate printings.

The desert globemallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua) or apricot mallow is one of several species of mallow which may have red, pink, apricot and white flowers in late spring. Leaves are silvery green and hairy.
