KEYSTONE, S.D. — Mount Rushmore National Memorial is excited to announce the unveiling of its newly remodeled visitor center theaters and the debut of the captivating new film, “Mount Rushmore: Carved in Stone,” starting on Friday, May 23, 2025. This engaging movie delves into the history, design, construction, and enduring legacy of Mount Rushmore.

Produced by Alphabet Media Group for the National Park Service, “Mount Rushmore: Carved in Stone” employs an animated storybook format to bring Mount Rushmore’s history to life, offering audiences of all ages a fresh perspective on a timeless symbol of American heritage and inspiration.

“We are thrilled to share this new movie with our visitors,” said Michelle Wheatley, Superintendent of Mount Rushmore National Memorial. “It not only highlights the remarkable history of Mount Rushmore but also pays tribute to the vision and dedication of those who made it possible. The remodeled theaters will enhance the viewing experience, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the story.”

“This new chapter at Mount Rushmore reflects what’s possible when dedicated public servants, non-profit partners and generous donors come together with a shared goal,” said Diana Nielsen, Mount Rushmore Society CEO. “We are proud to work alongside the National Park Service throughout the process—from shaping the films to overseeing the theater renovations. These updates enhance the visitor experience in meaningful ways and help ensure that the story of Mount Rushmore continues to resonate with generations to come.”

This project was made possible through the generous support of the Mount Rushmore Society, private donors, and the South Dakota Department of Tourism, reflecting a collective commitment to enriching the visitor experience at Mount Rushmore.

The new film will be available to visitors starting May 23. Memorial Day Weekend offers an exclusive opportunity for visitors to be among the first to experience the upgraded theater facilities, now equipped with state-of-the-art technology and improved comfort—ensuring a memorable visit.
