New desert photography exhibition opens at Kelso Depot Visitor Center Mojave National Preserve invites desert travelers to experience the photography of Norman Schwartz in the Desert Light Gallery at the Kelso Depot Visitor Center. Schwartz's exhibit, Sand & Sky: The Kelso Dunes, will be showing from March 6 to May 28, 2011. The Kelso Depot Visitor Center is on Kelbaker Road, 34 miles south of Interstate 15 at Baker. It is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; telephone (760) 252-6108. In developing the exhibition, Schwartz spent many days at Kelso Dunes exploring the ever-changing play of light and shadow. "The dunes were ever evolving from day to day, hour to hour and at times from minute to minute," said Schwartz. "The images captured the fragile differences in transformation evoking disbelief that the recorded scenes were just moments in time and inches in proximity apart from one another." Norman Schwartz, a successful attorney and accomplished aviator, studied photography at the UCLA extension program where he won first prize in the annual student multimedia competition. His photographs hang on walls of collectors throughout the country. Limited-edition prints of Norman Schwartz's work will be available at the Western National Parks Association bookstore inside the Kelso Depot Visitor Center during the exhibition.
