Mojave National Preserve’s Acting Superintendent, Lawrence Whalon, will host a spring community meeting at Hole-in-the-Wall Interagency Fire Center on Saturday, April 16, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During the first hour, staff will discuss developments since the last community meeting regarding a number of projects in the preserve. From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., our Fire Management Officer, Chuck Heard, will host the park’s annual fire open house, including tours of the fire center and information to help desert residents protect their homes from wildland fire.
The public is invited to join Mojave staff for a conversation about common interests and is encouraged to contact the preserve in advance to suggest topics to be discussed at this meeting. To do so, call (760) 252-6102, or visit the website at nps.gov/moja and click on “Contact Us.”
As at past community meetings, we will be serving light refreshments provided by Western National Parks Association, the non-profit organization that operates park bookstores.
The Fire Center is located on Black Canyon Road across from the Hole-in-the-Wall Information Center in Mojave National Preserve. Take Interstate 40 to Essex Road exit, then north to Black Canyon Road. The Fire Center is about 15 miles north of Interstate 40.
