The National Park Service (NPS) hosted a successful clean up November 14 at Mojave National Preserve and is seeking volunteers for future events. In partnership with Overland Bound – an off-highway vehicle exploring and recreation community – 86 volunteers - joined NPS staff to remove an extensive amount of trash and fire debris from 3 areas within the park: Death Valley Mine, Kessler Ranch and Billy Boy Mine. More than 15 tons of debris were gathered and removed. That equates to two commercial-sized dumpsters of trash being removed from the preserve in a single day.“It’s incredible to have a recreational group help us restore areas of the preserve and clean garbage from past visitors,” said Mojave National Preserve Superintendent Mike Gauthier. “The community that loves and cares for Mojave Preserve are extremely grateful for this new partnership.”

Volunteers contributed more than 6988 hours of service, at an estimated value of $18,000. More about the event can be found online: Hauling 15 Tons - Boots on the Ground Mojave
