The Battle of Moores Creek
Moores Creek National Battlefield has been entrusted with interpreting the sights and sounds surrounding the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge. Program highlights include 1st and 3rd person interpretation, battlefield encampments, musket and cannon demonstrations, as well as the interpretation of the daily life of the North Carolina militia, the Wilmington District Minutemen, and the Loyalists who were defeated here. We invite you to come and experience history first-hand. Please check the Schedule of Events to identify dates and times when programs are scheduled during the Fall and Spring months.

Wilmington District Minutemen

As a part of the "Stories of the American Revolution" Living History Program, Moores Creek National Battlefield has establishied the Wilmington District Minutemen under the command of Colonel Alexander Lillington. The purpose of the Minutemen is: “To recruit and train interested individuals as National Park Service Living History Volunteers competent to participate in Historic Weapons Demonstrations and to educate the public on the park's history and significance.”

You must be above the age of sixteen to volunteer for this position, male or female, and be willing to volunteer for the park’s main events such as the Anniversary, Candlelight Tours, and smaller weekend programs. The Minutemen muster (or train) one Saturday a month, so the committment level is minimal. The park supplies the uniforms and the weapons- you just need to supply the enthusiasm and willingness to be trained. If you are interested in joining the Minutemen or have any questions, please contact the recruiting officer Jason Howell at 910-283-5591 ex. 2232 or e-mail us.
