Knowing which key resources are in their parks, and whether those resources are stable or changing, helps park managers make sound decisions. At Montezuma Castle National Monument and 10 other National Park Service units in Arizona and New Mexico, the Sonoran Desert Network collects long-term data on climate, landbirds, springs, and streams. Back at the office, they analyze the data and share the results with park managers.

The information collected can provide early warning of ecosystem changes, allowing park managers to develop mitigation measures and reduce management costs. In this way, the network helps ensure that our national natural treasures are conserved, unimpaired, for future generations. To learn more, visit the network website.
