Contact: Laura Varon-Burkhart, 928-567-3322 x 221 Join park rangers at Montezuma Well on Monday, January 16th from 11 am – 4 pm for Martin Luther King Day. To honor Dr. King, many organizations around the country are offering opportunities to serve others.Montezuma Well is in need of volunteers to help us in the pasture restoration area and the traditional use garden. This garden will be used in the spring to plant traditional Native American crops and serve as an educational tool for visitors as well as local youth. Work will include pulling weeds, preparing soil, and forming native seed balls. Rangers also need the help of young artists to brighten up the garden by painting river rocks and plant identification signs. Tools and equipment will be provided. We recommend the volunteers bring work gloves, a hat, a water bottle, and wear close-toed shoes. A free cook out lunch will be provided for all volunteers! This program may be rescheduled due to extreme weather. To sign up for this opportunity, please call the Montezuma Castle visitor center at 928-567-3322 x 0 by 4:00 pm on Friday, January 13th. Please tell the ranger how many will be in your party. For more service opportunities near you, please visit https://www.nationalservice.
