Interagency Summer Workshops about the Verde River for K-12 Educators

This summer, two workshops, one called "The Verde River: Then, Now and Tomorrow" and the other called "Hidden Water: Groundwater and the Verde River," will be presented during July 10-13, 2012 for K-12 teachers.  Educators will be able to choose to attend one or both of the workshops which will count toward continuing education units.

"The Verde River: Then, Now, and Tomorrow" workshop is a new interdisciplinary program aimed at teachers in the Verde River watershed. Workshop topics will include natural resources, cultural history, and current initiatives. An interagency group including the National Park Service, University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Salt River Project, the Verde Natural Resource Conservation District, Arizona State Parks, and Prescott National Forest will be presenting this workshop on July 10-11, 2012.

"Hidden Water: Groundwater and the Verde River" will be the second workshop held in the latter part of the week on July 12-13, 2012 and will focus on local geology, the relationship between ground and surface water, and human dependence on aquifers as a critical local water supply. This workshop will be presented by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, the Verde Natural Resource Conservation District, and Salt River Project.

Both workshops will be held 8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily and be primarily based out of a Camp Verde venue. Each workshop will provide 16 continuing education units for teachers; teachers taking both workshops can earn 32 continuing education units. There is no cost to attend the workshop, but teachers must apply by the March 30 deadline.

If you are a K-12th grade teacher interested in one or both of these workshops, please visit the following website: http://cals.arizona.edu/arizonawet/workshops/current_workshops.html. The application process is web-based, and applications are due no later than Friday, March 30, on the website.
